Bold. A simple order a client can give, they didn’t want something that will be shy amongst other houses, certainly not to stand out with things like colors, design style, etc. It had to blend in, but to a certain degree be complicated structurally, for it to intimidate...quietly.
So as a result the structural design became a defining factor for every aspect of the house, with a 180 degree view of the neighborhood, the misconception it captured with its unique and intimidating structural design was that of it being perceived more as sophisticated than complicated...which is much more valuable than the later.
But as it was taking shape, another aspect of the design decided to step out of the shadows and truly defined the structural design, and that was the concept of putting everything under one roof.
Singularity. Since the structural design was the basis, we decided that no structure on the property landscape shall rival with it, rather they shall complement it or even better be one with it. Most people will find it hard to believe but the property consists of quite a number of external spaces; a detached double garage, two carports, off guest bedroom, a tool shed, and an external kitchen for entertainment.
All these were inspired to become one with the main house and created a unique structural design, which most definitely is not minimalist home design because of its more than generous number of spaces. But rather a home that offers way more...with less, a home that truly exemplifies the phrase of ”Living Under One Roof”.
A testimony with architecture that

The Hirundo Rustica Co.
We are a small property design and developing firm based in Pietermaritzburg - South Africa, founded with a vision we call “The Design of Functionality” advocating for a functionally designed built environment. ::: Our Thesis ::: Architecture isn’t about material; bricks, glass, etc. No. Architecture is an extension of purpose; it’s about the way you want to live. Instead of going on about toilet seats, bath tubs, aluminum windows and so on. Rather talk about the experience you want from the property
